When your kit lens just won't do
Good upgrade from the kit lens versatile focal length, better piece of glass and build. Vibration Compensation (Image Stabilization) works really well when taking photos and helping them stay clear

Overall great lens, it is an APS-C lens so..
If you throw this on your full frame you should understand the drawback from that. But the only reason I'm giving 4 stars is because of the noise it makes when focusing. It's SO LOUD! and no one talks about it. So this lens isn't recommended for shooting video with. It does pick up every subtle movement it makes. A fast lens for portraits.
My real life shooting tests between this lens and the Sigma indicate little difference in sharpness. Since this lens does not have a stepper motor it makes just the slightest noise when focusing.
