Excellent hotwire cutter for the price
I haven't anything to compare this to, but for my model making from xps polystyrene foam this is perfect, heats instantly and has a handy on/off switch. I would have liked an LED light to tel me if I had left it on, but so far have always remembered to switch off so not actually a problem. The fence is easy to move and lock in position, but nothing to set it at exactly 90 degrees so keep a square handy. adding pencil marks on the bed makes it very quick to adjust, but I guess you might need to check these from time to time as it would be possible to move the wire arm if you were packing it away for changing wires and stuff. I think you can also detach the whole assembly from the bed if you needed to cut freehand in an awkward place, but I haven't needed to try that.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Bought to Modify Polythene Foam packaging
Some years ago I manufactured large model railway coaches in Gauge 1 1/32nd scale. I had some foam liners made to protect these models for delivery by post or courier. I kept some coaches for myself and on buying some plastic boxes to store them, I needed to cut down the foam liners to fit these new boxes. The hot wire cutter has performed this task admirably. I can now fit two coaches in one clear plastic box, instead of having one coach per cardboard box. It's given me other ideas too. I reckon I could probably use it to make patterns in polystyrene for model buildings, and accurately cut polystyrene sheet used in model making. Impressed
My foam cutter turned up this morning. Put it together straight away just left the wire it came with in. Thought I'd cut some roof shingles for a model I'm making, needed to be 1.5mm thick. Turned it on and within seconds it was hot so started to cut. Pushed to fast to start with but once I got the right speed and pressure they came out just how I wanted them. These were cut from 10mm styrofoam black, was very impressed. Not the fastest but if I change the wire it should cut quicker. Build quality I'm impressed, for the cost the quality is excellent. For the hobbies you won't go wrong. Would I change anything? No. Would I add anything? Yes but just for my needs. I will add a center line and a few measurement lines. I will make a circle jig for this. To the builder. The circle jig could possible be an add on? On the whole I'm very pleased with my purchase bed size is nice and big and the height has a good clearance 10/10

Excellent product
This foam cutter is very well thought out, it is well made, and it was securely packaged. Assembled it this evening and it works very well. Good deep throat with plenty of room for the railway modelling I plan to use it for. It comes with a range of wire gauges (thicknesses) for different temperature settings to suit different materials, and I will experiment with these later. All good so far, with no downsides at all. Cutting Edge Kit
I wanted a cutter with a decent depth of cut. This one looked just what I wanted and with the added bonus of a work platform and guide ! In comparison to the small hand held cutters the price was reasonable too. No way was I expecting it to be such a quality item. Very well made and will certainly stand the test of time. Function and design
For a very reasonable price this hot wire cutting board is very hard to beat, in terms of functionality, design, and economy. The only minor issue I had was with the wing nut holder design on the fence which when you place the fence lengthwise and you are working to a few millimetres from the wire then the rounded head of the bolt that holds the fence doesn't have the clearance of the tube frame of the wire cutter. But that's entirely nitpicking and easily fixed by setting the fence back further and using a metal ruler or block to get the foam to within a few millimetres of the wire. Good value well built hobby tool
This item is well built, easy to put together and comes with spare cutting wires. It is possible you buy the parts and build one yourself, but I doubt you would save any money. Similar devices are available at many times the cost. I’m very happy with the product. I’ve been using it to cut 10mm xps and with the standard wire it cuts great. I considered building one myself but for the price and the quality of this one it didn’t make it worthwhile plus this comes with spare wires. The only thing I would say is I wish it had some sort of measuring guide to speed up changing the cut size but that still doesn’t detract from how good it is👍👍Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

I saw the review for this on Luke's APS youtube channel. It was exactly what I had been looking for to cut these polystyrene sheets I've had kicking about for 5-7yrs.
