With four children, we have - of course - see the first movie in the Harry Potter series many times. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is still enjoyable to watch, though not the one that we might usually take off the shelf because it shows its age in relation to the ages of the main characters. Nonetheless, we have been taking a second look at a number of films in this category because of their release on Blu-ray. This film "came to life" again for us because of the stunning detail that can be seen almost from beginning to end. Hogwarts, in particular, is rich in detail from the many paintings that adorn the wals, to moving staircases to enchanted ceilings. We noticed many details that we had never seen before, despite having watched this movie 30 times or more. One of the things I have been thinking about since we got our Blu-ray player in May is which standard DVDs in our collection really need to be replaced. Is the increase in quality with Blu-ray that much better that we would replace them all? Well, I'm sure we won't replace them all, especially those we watched once and then put on the shelf. However, for a film like this, I do have to ask that question. In the case of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, the answer is Yes. This is one where the difference in quality is substantial enough that it is worth the money to replace.Read full review
I have not recieved the blue ray disc yet, but we do have it on standard DVD. We went to see the movie when it first showed at the theaters and I was a little sceptical at first. I did not read the book only went on my wifes word. Sitting in my seat waiting for the movie to start I looked around and saw more adults than children. I wondered if they knew something I did not. As the movie started I was immediatly drawn into the cast of characters. The charm of Harry Potter was heart warming. An unassuming polite young man. You don'y see many of those in the movies now. How people got it into their heads that the movie was witchcraft and evil certainly did not see it. The movie was FUN. It was fantasy and make believe. Remember when we did that before cell phones, computer games and television. Take a step back into your childhood and step into Hogwarts.Read full review
This is the one that started it all. The movie is fantastic and rivals the best in the series. The Blu-Ray version is good but not great hence the 4 star rating. The picture is clear and definitely is worth the upgrade from DVD, but I kinda expected more. It's probably not the transfers fault but the source film. The lower budget and technical limitations, compared to the rest of the series, is easily noted. Overall a good Blu-Ray and a no brainer for fans of the series.
What is so great about the harry potter films is that they grow with your child, they become more intellectually stimulating and more emotionally involved. This film is definately is fun and enjoyable for virtually all children 5 and up. as the first film in the series it is quite impressive, and rest assured all the subsequent films will leave you wanting more as well Your 5+ year old should be very much glued to the tv threwout... heck you'll be glued to the tv!!
Great first movie of the series. Would recommend it.

If you don't already own this movie it is worth it for the Blu-Ray quality picture & sound, if you are looking for lots of extras that the regular DVD doesn't have you will not find it here. This is the 1st Harry Potter Movie and remains one of the best of the series simply because of it's charm. It is the "lightest" as the others slowly turn darker as Harry grows up.
Great Movie

Excellent movie. Great story and characters. Lots of action. Blu-ray picture is remarkable. One of my favorite movies. Had to won it.
Sorcerer's Stone - This is the one that started the whole thing. It is a good movie, but the movies keep getting better down the line. This one is more of a kids movie, not to say adults won't find it entertaining.
I bought the Blu-ray to replace my DVD but if it don't sell on here, I think I'll keep it for the extra features
