I bought this camera for my wife, her old Pentax had suffered at the hands of our daughter, the 'phantom camera crusher'. Being a technophobe, what she needed was something simple to use, something that could be set to automatic and left there for her to use as a simple 'point & shoot' camera. This Canon certainly fits the bill in that respect. She needs only to know how to turn it on & off, how to use its very acceptible 8x zoom and which button is the shutter release. The A4000's 16 MP sensor combined with the quality of lens you would expect from Canon, gives images of lovely resolution and the image stabliser ensures sharp images. I am no camera snob, in my time I have used a Pentax ESII, Canon AE1, Nikon F301 and now have a pro & a semi-pro Nikon DSLR, but I would be happy to use this for those times when dragging around a heafty kit bag & setting up a DSLR are too much for family get-togethers. My one beef about this (and 99% if other compact's) is the lack of an optical viewfinder, hence my compact is a Nikon P6000. But for the type of photography my wife wants it, a P6000 or the equivalent Canon G series, is too complicated, not to mention far too expensive. On the whole, the Canon A4000 IS is an easy to use, light weight and, well, compact Compact Camera, which produces fine results.Read full review
I have been trying it out on My dog and the still picture's are great and where She run's in circle's I tried out video and this great it is fairly easy to change from one to the other also the settings are easy to use.
For the price I paid I couldn't possibly complain, but then I wouldn't anyway. It is exactly what I wanted. I already use a DSLR, but wanted this is a handy point and shoot for other occasions. It takes good photos for what it is and has good features. I'm pleased with my purchase.
