Batman keyboard
I call this my batman keyboard as it looks like shape of batman's icon.
The only things which annoyed me about it where
-
1)
Media keys on the left side, I'm use to using a standard keyboard (which has no media keys on the left side).
With the Ares K5 every time I wanted to press left side CTRL, Shift, Caps Lock or Tab, A Q keys my fingers hit the media keys first, that was annoying.
To fix this problem I simply removed the media keys and covered the gap with clear tape.
Now i have a strip of light on the left side and my fingers can hit the right key/s on the left part of the keyboard.
If I want the media keys back l'll simply push them back in their old sockets and they will work.
2)
Number, Caps Lock, Scroll lock lights.
If you're not leaning over the keyboard or standing up and looking down on it then these lights are very hard to see.
The designers should have placed these lights in a normal place (above the number pad) or infront of the ridge on the top right corner of the keyboard instead of behind that same ridge which can be annoying when you want to see if one these lights are on or not.
Using the keyboard
-------------------------
Simply plug it in to a USB socket, the computer recognises it and you can use it.
Keyboard lights
--------------------
7 color version of the Ares K5 is the best one to get.
The keyboard lights are great, you have 3 settings from switched off to bright and one setting where the lights fade in to bright and out to black every few seconds.
If you don't use the keyboard for a while the lights switch off, this isnt a fault its a power saving feature.
Press a key to turn the lights back on.
Even in normal day light when the lights switch off you can't clearly see what each key does until you press a key, the lights come on and you can see what each key does.
Light Colors
---------------
The light colors are great and it makes typing at night or in a dark room very easy, accurate (as you can see the keys you're pressing) and a pure joy.
Light blue, yellow, light green and white are the best for day and night, with these colors all the keys are easy and very clear to see.
Blue and purple (even on the brightest setting) are ok
Red (even on the brightest setting) is the worst and my eyes can hardly see :; and -_ and '@ keys.
Would have been better if orange had been used instead of red.
In the darker colors I wish there was a setting to make the lights one or two stops higher as it would be easier to see them.
----------------------
Overall its a good looking keyboard, feels well made, solid and very strong.
Sitting on my desk its rock solid and won't move.
When pressing the keys, the keys feel good and positive, they feel as strong as the keyboard from a 1980s Commodore 64 (which had a great keyboard).
When ever my K5 wears out I will buy another one but before using it I will modify it (as I did above).
Despite a few minor flaws I would highly recommend it as it feels better than any PC keyboard I've used.
