Various safety and locking precautions are present in the Gitzo series V tripod: the G-Lock design; the Anti-Lock Rotation system; a ratchet locking lever built to secure the top plate of the Gitzo GT5542LS tripod; and an additional secondary safety pin, which keeps the center components and camera equipment safely in place, even if the top casting is left untightened. This systematic four-section tripod provides strength and stability to ensure users can get the exact photos they want, with integrated spiked feet to dig into multiple types of terrain and stay rigid while being utilized. A carefully constructed triangular top casting ensures even and effective weight distribution across the 6.17-lb tripod. This top casting allows the Gitzo GT5542LS tripod to support 88 lbs of equipment, and can provide enough stability for the use of lenses up to 800 mm. With a closed length of two feet, the Gitzo series V tripod can attain a maximum height of five feet, and is able to be shortened to a minimum of 3.9 inches. Also providing stability in uncertain conditions is the hook feature on the Gitzo series V tripod. The hook, located on the bottom of the tripod head plate, may be hung with bags of water or sand to compensate for uneven ground or windy conditions. The top casting unit of this systematic four-section tripod, besides evening weight throughout the model, can also be modified into different transfigurations, supporting both video and photographic equipment.
