  • Excellent classic B&W story

Fantastic second Doctor story from the pre-colour era. My late Mother suggested The Krotons were probably found in soup, and whilst watching this the other day, by business colleague remarked that one of the rather dodgy robots had a Birmingham accent; something I've never noted before. It's the limited budget BBC that I love so much about the 'classic' Dr Who episodes. Current production does little for me with the Hollywood type of production standards. I love the shakey sets & props that as an electronics engineer myself often recognise what they are really part of!

  • One of the weakest of the Second Doctor's stories

Usual Second Doctor fare of a small group of drippy humanoids and some Nasty Outsiders. Not the best of scripts and Frazer Hines looks as though he's bored with his role. Principal let-down though is the terrible effort at Monsters, the Krotons looking even less threatening than the Dominators' toy robots, the Quarks. Patrick Troughton does his best, and Wendy Padbury is as good as always, but I think this serial is for completionists only.
