These are good headphones.
I like this in ear (not canal) style as it allows me to listen to music without tuning out the world around me. The sound is very good. I would not rate the sound as exceptional but they definitely perform better than expected with a good overall tonal quality. The lows are warm but not punchy and the mids and highs are accurate. These are not audiophile quality but they are good for everyday use and I find them very comfortable to wear. Worst Sony product that I have ever owned.
I have had dollar-store earbuds that had better sound quality than these. Absolutely NO bass and a very tinny sound. I still have some ten-year-old Sony MDR earbuds that STILL sound excellent after all these years.
