90% noise canceling seems a bit too much to claim, but you can tell the difference

The set has a bunch of ear tips but the one that blocks best may the a little different sensation and not that comfortable for some. The noise canceling is good enough... comparing my over the ear headphones Sony MDR-7560 or Audio Technica's M50X I can hear less noise with these; these need some equalizer changes to make them shine. I got them for a great price ($29) so I am happy.

Good sound Quality but.. active noise reduction is not so powerful

Over all quality of the product is fine, and the added ear buds are a great addition, but I bought these headphones due to it's active noise canceling feature, which is not so powerful. It does remove some background noise, but most of it find it's way right into your ear. With in flight experience, it only slightly improves your peace and quiet. Having said that, the price of the headphones is considerably lower than it's high-end siblings...

  • Don't be fooled: good earbuds but with problems

Don't get me wrong - these are good earbuds. Just don't be misled by the marketing. These headphones will NOT block out 90% of sound. They WILL block out 90% or more of AMBIENT sound. I bought these hoping to get some quiet in the midst of a large family. Turns out, the earbuds are designed to block out low, ambient noise, not high or mid noise. It will ERASE refrigerator hum, car noise, any low humming droning. It doesn't do much of anything to voices, music, clacking, beeping, or anything above a low pitch. Seems that people who like it most use it on commutes or on airplanes. That's great! Just be aware that it will NOT block out speech, music, etc. The earbuds are also large around the tips. They may be painful for small ears. The little battery box isn't that heavy, but can be a pain to work around.

  • ATH ANC23 Noise canceling In-Ear Headphones

They work well and they're comfortable. The noise canceling feature works very good considering it's not an "over the ear" type headphone. The battery seems last a long time and overall I'm pleased with them. Jim in Nashville

  • Impressive for the Price

I used these for the first time while mowing my lawn with my antique Cub Cadet riding tractor. It's pretty loud, and they worked pretty da*n good. Did they knock the mower db down by 90%? No. But it might have been 50%. I'd consider it "great, for the price" (I pd $29). I was rather shocked. I also tried them with my stereo on and fan on high in my living room and they eliminated the fan noise completely and stereo sound by about 50%. To achieve these results I used the foam inserts (I find they mold to the ear canal better creating a tighter fit).

  • Fantastic noise reduction

These are INCREDIBLE for the price. I didn't have high expectations -- I just wanted to listen to podcasts at the gym without having to turn the volume so high that it would damage my ears. The moment I switched on the noise cancelling feature, all the background noise (machines, general chatter, building A/C, etc.) just disappeared. I could hear the voices of people near me, but they were softer and easy to tune out, and the gym's music was audible but much quieter. I was able to listen to my podcasts at a much lower volume, and the sound was clear and good quality. For a $30 set of noise-cancelling earbuds, this is a lot better than I was expecting and I'm very pleased.

  • Decent sound quality but mediocre noise cancellation

The noise cancellation feature is not very effective, although it may be very dependent on how well the earbuds fit. I estimate 25-40% of the background sound is eliminated, depending on what it is (compared to a claimed 90%). On the plus side, the sound quality is pretty good.

  • Better -- but not perfect.

The sound cancelling feature of the earbuds is only partially effective. Having had a BOSE noise-cancelling headset, I can tell a distinct difference. I would estimate the earbuds only cancel perhaps 50% of the noise when in the cabin of the average airliner. Better -- but not best. The comfort factor is perhaps a little better than I expected. The earpieces are slanted so that insertion into the ear channel fits better.

  • Waste of money

I bought these for my long international flight and I wanted something to use with my iPad for watching movies, etc. They were super uncomfortable and did not notice anything great about the noise cancelling feature. After an hour I ditched them and ended up using my factory issue Apple ear buds and they were way better than this crappy pair. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!

  • Second buy

This is the second time I bought these. I use them on my motorcycle rides to quiet the ambient noise and listen to music at a reasonable volume. They are the best I've found in this price range and with an AAA battery powering the system it lasts for days and days. The Music reproduction is very good and with the right rubber ear buds its comfortable all day.
