    Old school enclosed headphone

If you are into an old school fully enclosed headphone it's difficult to beat this pair. This is a sturdy time tested design has been around since the 1970s. It produces a smooth and accurate sound while eliminating a great deal of outside noise distractions. These do not feel like a modern light headphone they are a bit heavier due to the solid construction and oldschool design. This aspect is a big part of their charm. The 250 ohm rating does require you to turn the output up quite a bit more than you would on other headphones. This aspect does not detract from the good sound quality it just means you need to use more energy to drive the headphone. Play back at low volume may seem a bit lacking, however at mid and high volume you receive a rich full sound. Sturdy construction with a good quality sound production and a lifetime warranty, it's hard to beat this pair of headphones.

    Times have changed

These were my first 'real' headphones from 1974-1979. Even with moderately-priced Japanese electronics of the era, they sounded amazing in my late-teen years. I sold them in 1979 for AKG K240 Sextetts. I haven't heard them since then until I decided to hear my old reference in early 2016. I have every reason to believe the Pro4AA I bought from eBay are in good shape sonically and all-around, and built sometime in the '70s. They have the vice grip clamp on my head and ears and are very heavy by today's standards, which I expected. I didn't expect the sound was so, uh, colored, nor do I remember it being so much so. A huge upper-bass emphasis ~300Hz, still-strong bass below there, that render mids and treble way into the background. And this is using equipment that is far more open and capable than my '70s electronics. Eventually I plugged them into a good receiver with tone controls: it actually requires only minor adjustment to cut bass and boost treble to get a more-even tonal balance. Though that's imperfect vs proper equalization, it does show the high frequencies and vocals are actually fairly well-rendered even compared to modern $100 MSRP closed-back headphones. And it remains a remarkably well-built robust piece throughout, as their materials, condition, adjustability and even sound prove out. Compared to modern reference-level headphones there's no comparison sonically. But in 45 years you'd expect headphone technology to move forward substantially, especially with the relatively recent mainstream popularity of headphones. But for $25 they're well worth keeping as a not-awful-sounding piece of high-end history. Comparing them to brand-new current-production $100 Koss Pro4AA from the factory, er, well, that's a different review...

  • The GREATEST studio headphone ever created!

There is not a lot that needs to be said. How do you describe the best stereo headphone ever manufactured. I could write for a solid hour about the frequency response, sound quality, low distortion rating, etc, etc. But instead of boring you with technical jargon, all I will say is buy 'em, try 'em and you will be in stereo ecstasy! Whether you dig classical, rap, country, metal, classic rock, jazz, whatever you listen to, these are the greatest sounding headphones ever made! They have been the standard of MANY recording studio engineers for decades! Buy a pair and you will QUICKLY see why!

  • good isolation, great sound

I needed a good set of isolation headphones to use when I'm practicing on my drum set to cds. Works great. Great sound and isolation. I have used Koss phones in the past, never disappointed in the quality or the sound!

  • Thanks for making these headphones again !!

I bought these headphones to replace a pair that I sold to a friend years ago. Koss is a very good brand and the sound quality is just great.

  • As good as ever

First bought a pair of these back in the 70s & they lasted over 30 years. Very durable, outstanding sound. They are a bit heavy & take some getting used to for those who've never owned a pair. In the 15 years since my original pair developed a short in one of the cup wires I've gone thru 4 sets of headphones from 4 different manufacturers and spent way more money for far less quality. Thank goodness these are back on the market again. Try 'em, you'll love 'em.

  • great headphones!!

Wonderful sound - replaced stiff ear pads with new set from Koss for only $5. Very comfortable now! A little heavy but not enough to matter that much also very good at sealing off outside noise especially with new ear pads. A very well made quality headphone!

  • Yesterday is still so Great

I remember having a set of these when they first came out, The sound is still super but if you are thinking these are some light weight headphone, well forget it they are heavy but they are built to last for the VERY long haul. Koss has always been know for the great headphones from home use to using them in studio. This is no fashion statement but it is a statement in quality and great sound!!!! Brazil Radio

  • Great vintage 'phones like back in my radio days...

"No, No, No" might seem like an odd way to start a 5-Star review, but I did buy these knowing they didn't work and you can see in the picture that padded parts were missing... so there was no 'sound quality' or 'comfort'... and the 4AA's have never been lightweight, LOL! These are a project, and I'm sure will be very enjoyable once I get them rebuilt.

  • heavy but the best sound ever

The construction quality of this headphone is unsurpassed. The sound is also much better than newer headphones. The only issue is for young people that use to wear lightweight headphones, but if you want professional studio headphones with out standing features, this is your choice.
