The 19mm f/2 WCL-X100 is Fuji’s Wide Angle Conversion Lens that turns your 35mm Fuji X100 into a 28mm f/2 Fuji X100. This lens opens up the capabilities of the Fuji X100, as well as the X100s, X100T and the X70. The lens itself measures 55mm by 37mm and adds only a little heft to the camera by weighing approximately 150g. It has a magnification factor of 0.8x and promises no loss of image quality when used. The lens does not affect the Fuji X100’s apertures and the optical or electronic VF still works. The Fujifilm WCL-X100 wide conversion lens design is optimized to help keep the Fuji X100 camera series’ resolution similar to single lens shooting. The optical construction for this lens utilizes four glass elements in three groups. This design helps to keep the chromatic aberrations low. Fujifilm engineers also used a special EBC coating on this lens for maximum protection and to achieve maximum photography results. The lens can be easily attached, without the need for an adapter ring, by removing the front ring of the camera and screwing on the wide conversion lens. Before attaching the Fuji WCL-X100 to the camera, users have to make sure that the Fuji X100’s firmware is updated v.1.3.0. The updated firmware gives the Fuji X100 camera the ‘Wide Conversion Lens’ setting in the shooting menu. Users can access this added functionality through the Fn (Function) button or through the RAW one. When the ‘Wide Conversion Lens’ setting is selected, the Fujifilm X100 implements image processing to the shots taken through the WCL-X100. In-camera processes include reduction of image distortion and illumination balance on the image. Chromatic aberration, common among wide conversion lenses, is also reduced. However, putting the camera in RAW mode eliminates the camera corrections, while some barrel distortions are left. The Fujifilm WCL-X100 lens keeps intact the superb image quality of the Fujifilm X100. Nothing is affected in terms of the camera’s focusing speed, as well as its 10cm macro distance. The lens also works with the camera’s hybrid viewfinder. Icons appear at the frame edge, instead of the rim of the frame when using the Optical Viewfinder (OVF), while the Electronic Viewfinder gives users 100% field of view. The same experts who engineered the Fujifilm X100 also executed a well-thought out design on the WCL-X100 wide conversion lens, for a seamless blend with the camera. The lens uses similar materials, colors and textures as the X100 camera. There is also an optional PRF-49S filter and LH-X100 lens hood for lens protection. The WCL-X100’s snap-on lens cap easily attaches, even when the filter and lens hood are on. This wide conversion lens increases the Fuji X100s’ capabilities by multiplying the fixed focal length by 0.8x. This turns the 23mm fixed focal length, equivalent to 35mm in 35mm format, to a 19mm wide angle, giving a little bit more of space for composition. The missing touch!
This little adapter comes into mind when you're in those tight spots where not even 35mm is enough. Your mind is saying "gee wiz, I sure wish I had a few more mm of focal length for this shot". Well now with this heavy, metal and solidly built adapter you can make that wish come true. Tight spaces are not as tight anymore. Peoples heads, arms, and legs are not being cut off anymore. Those landscape shots you wish you could take are now possible. Plus the few extra mm give you freedom to take more creative photos. Sharpness stays the same if not sharper, camera dosent turn too heavy. Matter of fact it feels better with this device on. Your left hand has something to hold onto so you can hold the camera in a proper taking position. Buy two silver lens filters so when you take off your 28mm the glass stays protected and with the second you put back on the original lens. We both know this camera is perfect. That's why you own one. But this adapter make something perfect into something divine. It will also make it look more vintage. Since Ive put this lens adapter on more people have been asking me " nice film camera bro" and I just flip it over and theyre mind tickled that there's a screen. Bottom line. Buy it used for a good price. They hold up their value and great addition to having fun and making the most out of your fuji.
