About this product

Product Information

For exceptional cursor control, choose the Kensington Orbit Optical Trackball . Put your expectations into orbit This highly accurate trackball is as easy to use as a regular mouse, but it stays in one place on your desktop, saving space and optimising ergonomics. Less arm movement is required for operation, meaning you can place your arm in the most comfortable position and leave it there. The Kensington Orbit Optical Trackball uses an optical tracking device that is less affected by dust than regular trackballs, reducing the need for regular trackball cleaning. It's ideal for video editing or other creative projects which require long hours of accurate mouse control, and often require extensive scrolling that would mean repeatedly lifting a regular mouse off the desk.

    4th Kensington and still going

I switched to a Kensington track ball about 8 years ago. this is the 4th time i have had to purchase and used one. The average life is about 2 years use. I have found that the ;eft hand switch or clicker as many refer to always wears down, so there's a hint at the manufacturer to improve the left and right switchers, I would never switch back to a wrist breaking mouse.

Redesigned - now with built-in wobble

I was a VDU ergonomics adviser for many years, and used the older Orbit at work and home (model MO1399 with a red interior light). When it finally became faulty I bought (October 2024) a replacement from Staples. It was immediately clear that the new version (model MO1591, with no red internal light) has either a design defect or quality control problems. It does not sit flat & stable on a flat desk, but instead rocks from front to back. With my hand resting on the rear, the front end under the wire attachment point is several millimetres off the desk, causing it to wobble in use. I alerted Kensington's customer case team, who appeared unconcerned. They asked for photos, which I told them would not show the problem ; and then replied "I can't see any wobble" ! Another reply said " the new Orbit Optical Trackball (model MO1591) has undergone some design upgrades aimed at improving functionality and performance. However, we understand that the changes may have inadvertently caused discomfort due to the slight rocking you’ve experienced." Duh ...NOT an upgrade or improvement ! For special needs use, or for anyone who wants an ergonomic trackball, the old model was great ; but I cannot recommend the new one with this problem unresolved. I recommend asking the seller to confirm the model number before purchase.

  • Great for hand tremors

Recent medical issues have caused major hand tremors so selecting items with a normal mouse is impossible!! As the ball and button actions are individual I am able to use a computer again 👍🏻😁

  • Kensington trackball

The Kensington trackball gives me more control over using my mouse which tends to pickup dust and it does not end up coming off the mouse pad and gives more control over the mouse pad.

  • Good beginner trackball

This is a fine starter trackball. Very basic two-button device, but you can enable middle button emulation and scrolling, etc. with some configuration (and some patience depending on your technical skill level).

  • Easy to use and great for C.A.D.

Comfortable and easy to use. If you have not used a track-ball before you might find it takes a little getting used to - persevere and you will find you will never go back to a normal mouse. I use it for drawing - in fact i've used track-balls for a decade or more; this one is a replacement for another which wore out. The drawing package I use it on at the moment is Visio 2019 - the track-ball gives pin-point accuracy compared to a mouse. My whole family use the track-ball now for general computer us. More than happy with the purchase.

  • Not as ergonomic as my previous logitech...

Not as ergonomic as my previous logitech rolling ball mouse. The buttons are a bit short in length so my fingers need to be bent when using the track ball to enable my thumb to be over the button.
