I had been using a dremel 4000 and workstation to drill small holes in mainly non ferrous metals, but got fed up with inaccuracy and flex in the system, so when I saw this I thought it was worth a try. It certainly has been! When it first came out of the box my first thought was that it was a toy. it took only five minutes to dispel this idea. For the size and weight this machine is excellent. I have been drilling 0.6mm holes accurately in 20 gauge brass sheet through to 6mm holes through 6mm thick mild steel, and this drill has coped with it all fantastically well. I did replace the collets supplied with the drill chuck available from Proxxon, and use the same company's precision steel vice. If I were to try to find fault - not much height adjustment available when using larger drills, and the guide bar on the base seems a bit imprecise for such a high precision tool. All said and done, given the obvious size limitations, it is hard to fault this drill. Well worth the money and the space on my miniature workbench next to my Cowells lathe.Read full review

Was using a Dremel workstation as a drill stand but proved no good for my model work. The Proxxon is so much better and make my work a lot easier

It’s not better than I expected - it’s good enough for small jobs. There is some play in the sliding arm that supports the vise so don’t expect total precision when drilling. I’ll probably modify it to make it more solid.
