In the process of training psychic rookie Cassandra Anderson (Olivia Thirlby), Dredd receives a report of an incident in a sprawling criminal stronghold ruled by fearsome drug lord Ma-Ma (Lena Headey), and ventures in to investigate. Upon learning that one of her top men has been captured by Dredd shortly thereafter, an enraged Ma-Ma seizes control of her massive 200-story complex, launching an all-out war against the Judges as Dredd and Cassandra find themselves trapped in the belly of the beast.

I discovered Dredd right at the start. My auntie used to buy me 2000ad from issue (prog) one until at least 1982. I was nine when it was launched. All of it was a complete mind f-ck to a child back then and all that has been forgotten as at least two generations of manchilds have taken it all a little too seriously. Back then it was radical for most kids. The Beano was concerning itself with hitting teacher on the backside with a catapult. 2000ad was concerned with ethnically cleansing a strain of genetic clones whose brains were fitted with a biochip capable of being hacked out after death. Rogue Trooper was my favourite. The star of the comic was Dredd, at least in the early days. The writers and artist took young minds on such a journey that nothing has touched that for me in over forty years. This movie at least does it some service. I almost typed justice. The Stallone one missed the mark by a country mile but Stallone looked like I imagined Dredd to look like. This newer version is bleaker and more savagely satisfying. Closer to the comic as I remember it. The production team deserves applause for it. It's definitely worth a buy. I just don't know what newcomers to Dredd think of it without all the baggage silly old duffers like me are lumbered with.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned
