Better than sucrose
While we are constantly preached at about using too much sugar, glucose aka dextrose barely gets a mention. It's less sweet than ordinary sugar, and is far more easily metabolized and utilized by the body with the caveat that it is not a good idea to use in excess if you are diabetic.
Where glucose scores over sucrose is that it only contains glucose. Sucrose on the other hand is a disaccharide of glucose and fructose. The latter has a lower GI but has to be dealt with by the liver which turns it into belly fat.
For an energy boost, it is the best and fastest. Glucose can be used instead of ordinary sugar but is only about a third as sweet. It's also a very good addition if you make sweets and hard candy.
5kg is a LOT of glucose and will last me ages, but for the money, is not a lot dearer than buying 2kg. As long as you keep it in a cool dry place well sealed and away from strong odours, it lasts for years. One last use is as an addition for brewing also called brewing sugar and ferments far better than sucrose.
