The Nikon AF-S ED ER is a great camera lens to use for everyday shooting possibilities. It features a 24 – 85 mm focal length that can take great shots from portraits to wide-angle type photos. The VR Image Stabilization feature allows the Nikon Nikkor lens to take photographs at up to four shutter speeds slower than the typical shot. There is a 3.5x zoom option for detailed close-up focusing capabilities, which can be done at a minimum distance of 1.25 feet from any focal length. The Nikon AF-S ED ER includes an extra low dispersion element, which enhances the colours and sharpness of the photograph. There is also a Super Integrated Coding on the Nikon Nikkor lens to enrich the light being transmitted, keep colours consistent, as well as reduce any flare that may be occurring. The camera lens has the ability to detect if it is on a tripod, which will automatically alter the shutter vibration to the correct setting when necessary. The Nikon Nikkor lens includes a view angle ranging from 28 to 84 degrees, with a maximum aperture level of f/3.5-4.5. NIKON AF-S NIKKOR 24-85 mm f/3.5-4.5G ED VR so good I bought it twice!!
I had owned one of these lenses for about 6 years when I decided to upgrade to the heavier and supposedly better 24 - 70 lens. I took delivery of the 24 -70 and sold my old 24 - 85 lens. I have to say I was pretty disappointed so had to have a replacement, (hence this review). The 24 -70 delivers fantastic results but it is heavy and bulky, whereas the 24 - 85 is light and compact with slightly better reach. Anyway, on to my review of this lens, the NIKON AF-S NIKKOR 24-85 mm f/3.5-4.5G ED VR. This lens is compact, light and has a good zoom range. This is a good all-round lens, not the fastest but certainly adequate to meet the demands of all but the most demanding professional photographer. I will be keeping the 24 - 70 lens but the NIKON AF-S NIKKOR 24-85 mm f/3.5-4.5G ED VR will always be my lens of choice for general photography.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

More than just a kit lens.

Super lightweight lens for full frame Nikon
Lightweight and great quality in a small, neat package. Half the size and weight of the 24-70mm, with slightly longer reach. I have overlooked this gem of a lens for too long and realised its potential when shopping for something more user friendly for my daughter to handle. Great intro lens for full frame photography. Great go to lens

Good price for a better than average lens
If you have the cash, then by all means get the Nikkor 24-70, but this lens for the money is a good performer. You won't miss the other lens's wider aperture in most situations and that lens is a heavy one to carry around. If you've bought a semi-pro Nikon body, this lens is fine. If as a semi-pro you've splashed out a pro body, well you're probably a bit pixel obsessed and this lens won't deliver all your super Nikon is capable of.
