old is still the best

Junky Can Opener
This can opener LOOKS like one from the 50s that I finally wore out but just a month after installing this new one it is worse than the old one. It almost won't puncture a can and then jumps out of the groove several times before it completes the cut. Just like old ones!
I was worried that it was a cheap version of the old opener. The lid magnet piece is a little flimsy and screws are way too short but, rest is sturdy and works easily. Needs better mounting options. Provide screw holders for drywall.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Like reuniting with an old friend
I had a SWING AWAY wall mount can opener 50yrs ago and moved and left it on the wall. It makes opening all size cans so much easier for my arthritic hands. I love this gadget! Am SOOO glad I finally found this one again. Living in an apartment means not as much space and being able to mount my SWING AWAY can opener on the wall, out of the way is great. I am right handed and the handle is on the right side. My daughter is left handed and that can be a problem for her. But it is MY can opener and I love it. Easy to use and cleanly removed can top
I've had the cabinet mounted Swing-a-Way for over thirty-five years, and it slowly became more difficult to cleanly open a can. The new one, using the same wall mounted bracket, works like a charm. It takes very little effort to operate, does not bunch up the can label, and even comes with a magnet to hold the lid when the can is removed. I am using this can opener by hand, just like a standard can opener. The crank is so easy to turn I use ny thumb and 2 fingers to open cans with incredible ease. I tried several other hand operated can openers which left me with a mess on thr counter and acking sore fingers. This can opener is fantastic.
