About this product

Product Information

Packed with mouthwatering recipes inspired by the food of Jerusalem, this is the long-awaited third cookbook from Yotam Ottolenghi, winner of the Observer Food Monthly Best Cookbook award 2013 Winner of the Observer Food Monthly Cookbook of the Year 2013. Yotam Ottolenghi and Sami Tamimi are the men behind the bestselling Ottolenghi- The Cookbook. Their chain of restaurants is famous for its innovative flavours, stylish design and superb cooking. At the heart of Yotam and Sami's food is a shared home city- Jerusalem. Both were born there in the same year, Sami on the Arab east side and Yotam in the Jewish west. Nearly 30 years later they met in London, and discovered they shared a language, a history, and a love of great food. Jerusalem sets 100 of Yotam and Sami's inspired, accessible recipes within the cultural and religious melting pot of this diverse city. With culinary influences coming from its Muslim, Jewish, Arab, Christian and Armenian communities and with a Mediterranean climate, the range of ingredients and styles is stunning. From recipes for soups (spicy frikkeh soup with meatballs), meat and fish (chicken with caramelized onion and cardamom rice, sea bream with harissa and rose), vegetables and salads (spicy beetroot, leek and walnut salad), pulses and grains (saffron rice with barberries and pistachios), to cakes and desserts (clementine and almond syrup cake), there is something new for everyone to discover. Packed with beautiful recipes and with gorgeous photography throughout, Jerusalem showcases sumptuous Ottolenghi dishes in a dazzling setting.

  • amazing choice and style dishes

read this book briefly in my local pub, loved some of the recipes so decided to by it. Wow what a good buy. some amazing food dishes in this book. healthy, refreshing, original and extremely tasty. friends who have joined us for a Jerusalem meal! have been really impressed. The thing i really like is that is puts foods together in the same dish in ways i have never seen. it also reminded me of my travels to Israel and the wonderful food available. Love the Arab influence from Sami too. thanks Yotam and Sami.

  • If you want to cook authentic Jerusalem food, this is the book for you.

Taking the reader on a journey through Jerusalem's twists and turns in more ways than just culinary, this book is the child of a gay Palestinian (Sami) and a gay Israeli (Yotam). Both Jerusalemites, they met abroad and became friends through their need to find good food and their shared experiences of being gay in Jerusalem society, in spite of their families' cultural differences. Israel and Palestine unite here and explode in a way that will warm, not turn your stomach, as well as your heart. From comfort foods like Mejadra and Falafel, to impressive deserts like chocolate krantz cakes, there's something for everyone. The popular and delicious Israeli classic of Sabich (named after it's creator, the original street vendor of the dish who brought the dish with him from Iraq), a sephardi version of gefilte fish (escabèche), to smooth, smooth humous, the all famous Palestinian dish Maqluba and much much more, this book has been my go-to food bible since it was first published and believe me, it's worth the price!

  • Good book

I bought this book as a second hand item. There was a slight rip on first page and the edges of the book were dented. I paid a few quid less, really not that much more then the price of a new book. Given what I know now, in all honesty, I would of rather bought it brand new. Having said that, the book itself is absolutely fabulous. Lovely recipes, lots of pictures. I ran out of post stickers marking each as a dish I want to make. I would highly recommend this beauty of a book

  • Great Recipes

This book was recommended to me after eating a great salad from the recipes. We do sometimes have to find alternative ingredients, not living in a town or city, but it's added a new dimension to our cooking to say nothing of great new flavours.

  • Bought as present - already have this great book

We love this book so much we bought one for our son as his birthday present. It has the tastiest recipes we have ever eaten. Yes some of them are quite involved when making, but the effort is worth it. No trouble finding ingredients and there are always alternatives. There are other recipe books by these authors but this one stands out if you are 'not' a vegetarian (although there are many recipes you can eat if you are). If you're really into cooking and love middle-eastern food, you can't go wrong.

  • Love it

Interesting recipes for my home grown veg without flipping back and forth too much to make recipes for the recipe. Already tried out some and very tasty. Well happy with it and look forward to exploring more of the recipes.
