T1 Toolholder problem
I have about ten of these from RGD using them on an original Dickson toolpost. They are excellent value.
I have had a problem of them being too tight on the post (they won't go the post) the surface on the T1 / T63 that sits behind the back face of the toolpost piston - ie; the clamp surface is a few thou forward of that surface, so it won't slide down behind the piston. My Dickson unit is used with some original Dickson holders and I have tried your T1 unit on Dickson toolpost on friends lathes too with same results, if they are tight on mine then the same on friends units. Some of your T1's are fine. The cure is to set the holder on a Vee block on a surface grinder and take off about 10 -20 thou off of each 45deg mating surfaces, this allows it to fit as the reduction in those surfaces determines the fit. At the price they are it is worth doing as Dickson originals will still command high prices even secondhand.
At this price and availability I will still buy these units even if I have to alter them slightly.
Kind regards
Stephen Rose
