Rugged and powerful!!
Well, this is the third HP Elitebook 8440p I've owned, gave my Dad my second and my first finally but the dust, bit I'm going to replace the keyboard and touchpad to get that working again! These laptops are just powerful for their age, and yes, I know battery life isn't great, but for the price, they're just great! I've installed Linux on both mine and they just keep asking for more! Playing games, ah get a console, these will play some games, but these are great for audio encoding and doing more power user stuff like Software Defined Radio. It's screen is bright, the fan on the CPU is quiet and so is the HDD! You can't ask for a decent laptop to do kids homework on to! The speakers are loud, but headphones or external speakers either wired or Bluetooth are better 😉 The WiFi is dual band, and depending which model you get, the i5 m540 will give Quad Core at just a shade over 3GHz! It also has Bluetooth built in for those who use headphones or speakers. Highly recommended for those who want a rugged fast, and cheap laptop!!Verified purchase: Yes

Specs on the laptop are decent, however it get very hot
I bought this laptop based on the specs it had for the price, don't get me wrong this is a very good spec for the price I paid £50~, however the fan and heat sink are very poor. The laptop can sometimes get too hot as the heat isn't being properly displaced from the processor. The fans were clean, so I reapplied the thermal paste for the heat sink but didn't get lower temperatures. When the air temp is 25C+ this laptop struggles, it has shut off when I have tried to watch something in bed as it was getting too hot (90C+) as the fans get blocked when you lay the laptop on top of a duvet. Other than that the laptop does alright, the battery only has 2hours of life, so I may buy a new one.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

Great laptop
I like nearly everything about this ex business edition laptop. The only change that would make this even better is.....Instead of hiding 1 ram module under the keyboard, which is a process to upgrade; If both ram modules were in the same place underneath. Plus upgrade to 2x8gb ram, instead of 2x4gb ram. Surprisingly powerful!
This is a great little laptop. I was wary of buying a reconditioned one but I am glad I did. Upgraded to Windows 10 easily, can manage multiple files and tasks. If you are after a cheap laptop for documents, streaming, music and photos then I would highly recommend this one. I bought a new battery for less than £10 and now it will keep its charge for a lot longer.
