Brilliant. So brave. This book should be read by everyone, young and old. The Germans try to re-write History to put themselves in a better light, but this book tells it how it was. The women concerned in the book were so young yet so brave. The men too. The Germans on the other hand were sadists. The Americans could not believe what they were being told even when confronted with piles and piles of dead bodies and women who were little more than living skeletons. If you have any doubts about what really happened this book is a MUST READ. The worrying thing is that it could all happen again. The Germans have not changed. To stand aside in disbelief is quite understandable but this book is backed with concrete evidence of what really happened. The book is testament to the cruelty, the unwarranted sadism, the brutality, the casual disposal of people and their bodies is all here. This is not a book specifically about these two women, it is about members of the SOE who put their lives on the line to save others. It is about French civilians who defied the Germans, about the human spirit and how these people survived against all the odds. Do not dismiss it because of the picture on the front of the book which does not do the book justice. It is not a book for youngsters, but they must know the truth.Read full review

A moving and compelling story of heroism and sacrifice of the highest order. Forget spy novels, this tells what it was really like to be a SOE agent, and the cost to the individual.
