All is not as it seems on Wisteria Lane, the pristinely manicured suburban setting of television's hottest prime-time soap. We learn this within the first few minutes of the DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES pilot episode, when seemingly sane and happy housewife Mary Alice Young removes a revolver from a drawer and shoots herself in the head. In the process of trying to make sense of her sudden and inexplicable suicide, Mary Alice's friends end up revealing just as many secrets about themselves and their neighbours as they do about her past. Each episode follows the ups and downs in the lives of bored trophy wife Gabrielle Solis (Eva Longoria), klutzy-yet-charming Susan Mayer (Teri Hatcher), frustrated stay-at-home-mom Lynette Scavo (Felicity Huffman), anal-retentive homemaker Bree Van de Kamp (Marcia Cross) and man-eater Edie (Nicollette Sheridan). Throughout the 5 series, each woman faces her fair share of drama and does her part in helping to uncover a string of mysteries that go deeper than anyone can imagine. The fifth series sees events flash forward five years, revealing the mysteries of the intervening years through clever flashbacks. The sixth series settles back down to real-time, but not for long; as a devastating plane crash changes the lives of everyone on Wisteria Lane. This release also includes the seventh and eighth and final series.

San Francisco Chronicle - There are almost too many things to love in "DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES." Felicity Huffman is -- as usual -- phenomenal as a mother down to her last, shredding nerve. Hatcher is a huge surprise here, giving self-effacing, disheveled and sadly hopeless Susan a spirit that makes you root for her. Cross is almost too perfect as uptight Bree, managing to give the character more shadings than merely insanely perfect. Sheridan is a veteran at the vixen role but brings a level of vicious humor to it this time and Longoria is pretty much all the hot anyone can handle., DVD Verdict - The guiltiest pleasure on television, DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES has broken every commandment in the Bible and every law on the books. But we wouldn't have it any other way. The show has made housewives hot, and America has noticed. We've all learned "sometimes evil drives a minivan."

Excellent entertainment (ignore the femine title)
The title does not do this justice as it is now just about housewives, but about their whole families, with comedy, mystery and entertainment. Can also recommend Devious Maids by the same writer.

Desperate Housewives
Excellent boxset to watch and have in your collection. So many different storylines throughout the course of the series to follow, very dramatic but also with a hint of comedy. Characters were well played. I didn't watch this whilst it was originally airing so decided to buy the collection and have thoroughly enjoyed it so much so that I am planning to rewatch the entire series from start to finish.
