Can it really be that easy? Fantastic Invention

I have only used it twice so far so it's early days. There is an instructional video on a well known video sharing site that makes it look really easy. Well it almost is. I couldn't quite turn the spanner with only light pressure from one finger, but almost. One of my taps was really corroded but they were both defeated in a few minutes. I wishbImhad discovered this fantastic invention years ago.

  • Most critical review

    Good concept, very poor design.

The concept is good and the packaging is reasonable but the implementation is poor. The swappable inserts that fit in the spanner are held by ineffective clips and the chosen insert tends to twist up and dislodge from the spanner when force is applied. I just about managed to undo my taps by pressing down on the spanner to keep the insert in place, but the tool is very difficult to use and I can not recommend it, especially at the price.

  • Essential

Undoing a tap is pretty straightforward when its new - but how often do you require to dismantle a tap when it's new? After 10-15 years plus it's corroded and welded together. This tool is then invaluable! No matter how much easing oil I used and gentle persuasion the body of the tap was not going to move and there was the ever present danger of ripping it off the basin. So preventing that makes it worth the money and if you are likely be changing washers etc during your life its an essential piece of kit!

  • mostly good

used on four taps 3x it worked great in fact i thought it had slipped off it worked so easy, but the little clips that hold the dif sized nut in place are not clever and to small and on an old pair of taps none of the nuts where big enough.

  • It actually works.

Quite simply this product does what it says it will. I have used it on 4 taps that didn't want to come off and it done the job on all of them. It has already saved me the cost of the device by not having to buy whole new taps. I really do recommend this as a handy device to have tucked away in the garage.

  • It worked! In my case an 18mm adapter would have made it a lot easier though.

I'm going to give this 5 stars as it did the job where everything else I'd tried failed, and removing the tap looked fraught due to tiled in, very tight, pipework. However it was not without a fight. The head-gear nut on my standard looking cross head taps is 18mm. The 19mm supplied insert seemed too loose and I was certain it would round off the nut. So a bit of filing down of the nut being careful not to scratch the tap spout was required to take 0.5 mm off it and then the 17.5mm insert was a snug fit. The shortness of the basin tap spout didn't seem to provide a very secure hold of the plastic spout adapter, even with both rubber inserts. So keeping it all level as I tightened it was tricky and required a couple of resets and start again. I was having to wind the nut on so much I was sure the spout adapter was going to snap, but it didn't, and with a dull crack the headgear released! So my tip would be to check the size of the headgear nut - my small adjustable spanner is calibrated in mm and it showed 18mm but to be honest I thought it wouldn't be able to discriminate down to 0.5mm and it must mean 17.5mm but it didn't - and have a plan if none of the supplied adapters - 17, 17.5, 19 & 22mm - are the right size.

  • Great product that is not promoted enough.

It is a very good product and would have merited a 5 but what I found missing was spacer inserts to compensate for a valve head that the spanner did not quite fit. It was touch and go as to whether the valve would turn initially. I ended up using a flathead screwdriver to fill the gap. I definitely saved a plumber call out.

  • Did the Job

This was money well spent. The tap in question proved very stubborn indeed but this little gadget made very light work of it. Definitely worth keeping for when I need it again.
