  • A good overview of a big period.

This is a good quality book. Unlike many other books on the period it overviews the roman army and time period. The pictures are also very high quality. My only complaint with the book is that many of the pictures of late roman soldiers are mostly from the wrong period. There are also a few pictures with equipment from different periods to what there meant to be. Like mixing the late Roman cavalry helmet for a Celtic one. Apart from the few picture errors this book is very impressive with its vast time period it covers.

  • Realy nice pictures

Quality of printing - super! Its nice even just hold it in hands. Of course, for qualified historian it might be too simple, but fo general knowledges about ancient world - its cool. For historical reconstructor, or for guy (like me), who paints scale models of ancient soldiers - it is unique. 😉

  • An Illustrated Encyclopedia of the Uniforms of the Roman World

This book is not bad, some of the illustrations are a little crude, but if you have as I do the other titles in this collection you will understand that what the book lacks in some detail it makes up for in compelling captions and splendid extended writings on the supject. experts on the Roman world propably wouldnt give it a second look but if you are just dabbling into a new area of military history as I am, then this is a great book to give a very sturdy grounding for further research. All in all 9/10, and I would also recommend the othe titles in the series.
