Bought this to replace a 12000 BTU, 12-year old Amcor device. Only had it a week and the manufacturers have thought about the packaging. How? The unit comes in a box, surrounded by straps and the box hass no bottom on it. So taking it out is as easy as lifting the sides of the box and then the unit off the polystyrene. The destructions say you should leave it 24 hours before switching it on if it wasn't always standing upright. As I wasn't sure, I waited the 24 hours, which happened to be 32 degrees. The hose is long enough but it is flimsy. That's where the Amcor was better. It has an adapter to attach to the back of the unit, which is a few clockwise twists to join them together. There is a sliding plastic window adapter if you have sliding windows but not long enough for French doors. As my windows open like a door outwards, this is no good and not found any of those overpriced plastic bags that surround the window any good, and I have used the cardboard the unit came in to block out the air from the window and made some cardboard caps to go top/bottom of the window, which blocks out 95% or more of the air. There are 4 functions heat, 2 humidity and an aircon setting, a timer, sleep mode, a 3 speed fan and a swing mode. Turning on this swing gently opens and half closes the exhaust flap. I wonder how long that will last. I cannot say about the max temperature, as I always set to minimum (16 degrees) and it will never change. There are a few things that made me choose 4 stars rather than 5; 5.2KW of electricity, air vent is on the top blowing towards he ceiling rather than the Amcor blowing out the front. It's also noisier than the Amcor. Make sure you keep children away from the exhaust hose because the exhaust tube got very hot and would burn an adult after a few seconds of touching it. So, keep your little treasures away. Also, shop around because the HP18P can be £200 more on some sites with many charging extra for delivery.Read full review

It is so nice to be cool on those hot muggy days. No noisier than some fans. And cools our two bed bungalow very well. I would recommend this unit. It's well made and looks good. I don't know about the economy is yet as only had it for three months but am sure to be cool is worth it.
