    Color in the Pan!

I bought 4lbs of this Montana pay dirt to pan with my daughter for the first time—we bought a panning kit earlier in the year. We panned the 2lb bags separately and found gold in each bag. It was very exciting finding gold in that black sand at the end. Most of it was very fine flakes but we did find a few that were larger and more defined. I would highly recommend this pay dirt if you’re trying gold panning for the first time!

Would recommend buying in bulk or bigger bags.

R-O-I is not even close to 50%. Though the bag was only $20, it claimed to be up marked down from around $40. Well i guess the gold that is added is also marked down to reflect the price. After the total two pounds were panned down, I got a total gold weight of .02/g. They must be using tweezers to add the gold.

  • About what I expected

I don't care all *that* much about ROI. I mean, just buy gold at the right price and you'll get 100% ROI. Not big on deconstructed and reconstructed material for purposes of making it easy to pan, product consistency, or whatever. For me, the idea is to have an experience as close as possible to a shovel-load of material from a real creek placer -- but maybe minus 2"+ rocks. This had a some black sands in it. I would have preferred more. Has some pretty coarse gravels in it that are not very or not at all river-smoothed. And it had a surprising amount of 2"+ rocks -- would be nice to have classified those out because it's a lot of extra, uninteresting, heavy mass. And these big gravels looked like they were from a quary, all fractured and not worn at all. There wasn't any gold you would exactly call a picker, which is fine. I actually enjoy separating really fine flower gold, but there wasn't any of that either. There is some small gold, but not super small -- maybe one spec in that range. The gold all seems added to me, because it's surprisingly coarse. If it doesn't any time moving in water, it didn't move far. Worse ways to spend an hour or so trapped at home. This is 4 pounds:

  • Plesantly surprised.

As stated in their description this is a great buy for a hobbyist or someone wanting to experience the feeling of panning gold if they have no access or ability to do so due to geographical location. I was expecting to see 4 or 5 colors in my pan but was surprised when i had about 30 total from small flakes to a few nice pickers. Nothing crazy but for what they offered it was awesome! Ill be buying more.

  • 2 lbs of Frustration and an enriched Septic Tank Deposit.

This was not fun or enjoyable. There were no nuggets as their name would imply. I know that mining for gold is hit and miss but these guys have hit the motherload of Johnsons "baby powder fine" gold. This was a novice panners' nightmare. It might as well be a bag of glitter. I have panned it down into a concentrate, Now I just have to find the secret extraction process. And thanks for not telling us about adding the no oil soap, to stop the floating flakes. I found that out from someone else. If you have floaters use Finish Rinse for dishwashers and the floaters will sink. Amazing! Now, what liquid will coax the Gold Dust out of the mud... • Fun but not a lot of gold.

My daughter and I had a blast panning through the dirt but was only able to find a couple pieces of gold. We even went through it again to make sure we didn't miss anything. Wasn't that much black dirt in it.

  • Gold panning

Bought 3 bags. Each bag had big rocks larger than 3in. I found some fine and flour in each bag but very little. No pickers in 6lb. Nothing that could be classified over 30.

  • Diggin in the dirt

Fun for me and the kids. Make sure you have either a real gold pan or a plastic plate with a high rim. Good fun especially with the stay safe at home. I didn't think of that when I purchased it which was right before this happened but it really is fun and there's gold seeded but we are finding some that is in the dirt along with garnets and other interesting things like roots and unidentified items. Thanks for the FUN
