Bought one because the price was nominal and the hardware had lots of bells and whistles. It was to give to my not-so-tech savvy sister. I was so impressed with the condition of the machine and it's bang for the buck (fingerprint reader, keyboard light, bluetooth and Wifi as well as web cam) with Windows Vista. I'm not a fan of any even numbered Windows version (they always seem to be painted pigs). Despite it's Vista handicap it was fast and not inscrutable as far as navigation. I replaced the antivirus and system maintenance programs with ones of my choice, added office and some DVD playing and authoring software. It still ran well and fast enough to satisfy me. I bought three more and gave them away to my sisters. I kept one for myself and take it with me on service calls. I use it as a portable workbench. I own a small computer repair service.Read full review
Everything is functioning just fine, except one thing: from time to time the screen freezes and in a few seconds the computer reboots. Kiind of annoyingm have no idea what the problem is.

i only had this thing a few hours, but i already love it! i was looking for a netbook, but this was cheaper and runs actual windows as apposed to android. the last time a saw a thinkpad was when i was like 5, and apparently they haven't changed much. this is good because if you build something the same way it's easier to perfect designs. you can tell by looking at it that the design is built for venting heat, the body of it is pretty durable, and it has a spill proof keyboard that i don't think i'll be testing on purpose. i never buy laptops because towers are so much more durable when put through high performance tasks that cause the system to heat up, but now i can do all my work and file downloading on the desktop and use the thinkpad to transport it around.
You cannot find a better machine for the price. I love the T61s. Rock Solid laptop, fast, reliable and they just plain work. This is not a gaming machine, but will outrun and outlast most any contemporary laptops out there that are $500 - $700. I have tried other laptops out there that on paper should out perform the T61 and I am sadly disappointed and keep coming back to the "T" series. Pretty? NO. Practical? YES. Can take drops, kicks and yes even spills. Great laptop for kids and accident prone adults. Spill your coffee in the keyboard and it is routed right out the bottom around the motherboard. Get this laptop if you just want a laptop that is no frills and does what it is supposed to do, WORK!
I've owned a number of IBM/Lenovo Thinkpads over the years. They tend to be reliable and I particularly like the pointing stick in lieu of a touchpad. On average, they take bumps and bruises quite well also. This particular one seems to be rather slow compared to another, newer one -- even though both have Windows 7.
