About this product

Product Information

Cut through sheet metal as easily as you would cut paper with these powerful sheet metal shears from Merry. They weigh a mere 8.02 pounds and so are pretty much effortless to wield. Moreover, the shears' ergonomic design means that they can be used with a single hand, rather than the traditional two hands for manual shears, which makes your DIY and commercial metalworking jobs even easier.

Not too bad for a Chinese brand..

I bought this sheet metal cutter after offering about the same price for a Black&Decker, wich was so old that I couldn't even find it on the internet after searching the model number, the seller refused me. Well, he can try selling it, cause I got this tool wich is just so great that I am really impressed. Cuts 1mm steel sheet easily at an amazing speed, depending on how it is fed into the material. For accurate cuts it has to feed slowly. Can cut curves. Very small distortion occurs at beginning of cut wich is negligible. Power cord is the cheap type, better be with an eye on it, so you don't get electrocuted if it breaks. Sooner or later it will. A pair of spare blades would have been nice to find in the box in wich it came. Don't know if spares can be found. Overall very good value for the price and I do recommend it over other tools for cutting steel sheet. Much better than an angle grinder(noisy, discs use up,can't cut curves), a hand tool(slow and painfull), or a nibbler(leaves half moons of metal wich are horrible).

    Good but has limitations

I purchased these shears after reading the positive reviews. I bought these to cut out vehicle panels to install bonded windows. Vehicle side panels are 1mm thick, so I assumed these would be perfect, however what I discovered was that whilst they will cut clean & accurately on a straight piece of material laid flat on a workbench, cutting the panels out on the vehicle was a different story. I found that as I cut the material, the waste that is generated, has a constant habit of fouling on the base plate, causing the shears to stop, and you then find yourself battling to try and remove the shears from the workpiece. After persevering with the shears, I did manage to cut parts of the panels out successfully, and when I did manage to get them to cut without snagging up, they left a very neat edge. Unfortunately though there seems to be more time battling with them snagging up then not. I also found that they were reluctant to cut the panel corners, and that the base plate was slightly to wide & bulky, in order to follow my window panels profile. So in summary, would I recommend? Yes & No! If all you need these for, is to cut material held flat on a workbench, than these will perform very well, however anything else, and you’re probably better paying more money for the likes of Boch.

  • Shear Delight !!!

Sheers work well and straight forward to handle. Lighter steel (1mm) cuts really quick. 2mm aluminium is fine and 3mm aluminium near impossible (above 2.5mm limit I know), 1.2mm stainless steel is hard going. The way you hold the tool, and angle to work piece seems to matter on thicker material, so when it is not quite right you need to push harder, it does not glide through, which it does if you get it right, so you know! The tool can be GBP 100 but AIM sell for 50-60 and I think it is good value at that price. Nice clean joint not raggity. With practice you learn how tight a curve you can do cleanly and exactly where cutting edge is. All in all I am very pleased, a good addition to my workshop.

  • Merry metal shear

Cuts OK but there is a knack to it, which I have not mastered yet. Mine cuts better when blades are away from each other. Sometimes it will fly through the steel (I'm using 1mm thick mild steel.) and sometimes it will just hover over the steel distorting it, probably just user error but it is Chinese so maybe not. Also the power switch could do with being designed better as it is awkwardly positioned if you need to turn it off quickly. Not professional quality at all but does the job to a fashion and is worth the money.

  • A great asset for sheet steel cutting.

A well made tool, which has been cutting 1.0 mm sheet steel like butter. Easily guided, with the cutting blocks in full view to enable the user to follow a line precisely. Very pleased indeed, and makes fabrication of thin steel sections very quick.

  • Sheet metal cutter

I had a lot of zinc roof flashing to cut & shape. This cutter worked perfect, no cutter snagging on long cuts. Very good blade cutting speed & easy to use.

  • Electric sheet metal shear

Just what I wanted and for the occasional use the £300 plus for The Bosch or Makita product seems a waste. They were probably coming from the Far East anyway.. It works. I am hoping it will work well long term but we will wait and see.

  • Great value tool

I have used this tool for 3 days now cutting 1.6mm mild steel which it cut with ease. My only criticism is that the power button would be easier to use if it was nearer to the head of the cutter giving greater control.
