Katsu 936 digital solder station
I was after a soldering iron after my old maplins one burned out.
I had looked at a lot of reviews before choosing this one. The review I saw on a well known video site, made my mind up. Priced at the budget end of the market, it has great features. The warm up time is really quick, and when warmed up you can adjust the temperature up or down by using the 2 buttons. There is even the option to calibrate the temperature by means of the buttons, if that is more critical for the work you are doing. It comes with an iron stand which is big enough to store spare tips, or even stuff a tip cleaner in the back. The tips are easily available on eBay, with a full range of types to choose from. The iron comes with a pointed tip, useful for small circuit work with small components and pads. I bought a 3mm chisel point to carry more heat on larger jobs. Replacement complete irons that plug straight in at the front of the unit are available for a few pounds, or the internals.
If I were to be really critical, there would be 2 things I would say. Firstly, there is a little bit of transformer hum. And secondly, the iron holder is a bit light. Neither of these affect the operation of the unit, as I usually have the radio on, and the stand can be weighed down, or rubber/felt put on the base of the stand. Great value and a useful competent unit which is fully serviceable when the time comes.
