Bushnell Car Window Mount: The traveling birder's secret. You'll see these mounts holding spotting scopes on car windows from Puget Sound to the Everglades. Manufacturer: Bushnell. Bushnell Car Window Mount.
This is one of those products which does exactly as you would expect and does it very well. It is excellently manufactured and will last a lifetime. The clamp part is designed to protect the window glass having a large wheel to tighten and given the surface area provided, enables a secure mounting without over-tightening being required. In use it could not be simpler as the single handle is both pan (left to right and vice versa) and tilt (up and down), simply by using one hand to loosen and tighten the tension, like a gentle unscrewing action with a screwdriver. I felt quite happy to mount my scope on this and did not feel its weight was straining the window glass. Additionally a pair of large binoculars could be fixed via a binocular mount as used on a tripod. However, using angled scopes is tricky as I could not lazily sit in my car as a nice warm hide because you have to get your eye above and into the viewfinder and the whole mechanism is now at right angles to your seat. With a straight through scope or binoculars this would not be a problem, especially if set up in a back window where you can turn your body more easily and the eyepiece height can be adjusted to suit. Of course you can set it up and open the door and stand to view as normal, but in those instances, I prefer to use my monopod. Highly recommended but not for a warm, comfortable view through an angled scope.
