Yes, digital cables can sound different.
I replaced a cheap 75ohm lead with this one expecting to hear a slight change or maybe nothing at all. I thought I'd have to swap back and forth to hear the difference. The improvement is so dramatic that's not necessary! The sound is clearer, cleaner and more detailed with no down sides that I can hear.
