The excellent light output of the Petromax lamp comes from a simple but fascinating principle: petroleum is fed under pressure into a carburettor, the resulting fuel evaporates in a mantle impregnated with luminous salts to produce a bright, warm light. To ensure that this principle works perfectly, the lamp, which consists of over 200 individual parts, is still assembled by hand. The Petromax is probably the best-known strong light lamp in the world. The name Petromax goes back to the commercial councilor Max Graetz, who invented the lamp at the beginning of the 20th century.
