I have tried aneroid adaptors and have had little success, often losing signal and getting locked up and having to reset. The apple box is very different. It is fast and reliable. The software is easy to negotiate and searches made easy by the voice recognition or 'siri' type of feature. A totally welcome update on the very limited Apple 2 gen AppleTV. AppStore is brilliant improvement after the massive walled garden and lack of flexibility of the previous generations. Much improved text input and the addition of Siri does improve matters. Also is the base for HomeKit devices so the sooner Apple integrate all their products and sync. Siri for Mac is coming so hopefully you'll be able to send a command to another device in another room.
