The name from the past that’s still the best!
Bought this to replace a 1/2wave Silver Rod (also a good performer). Very strong joints which eliminate the chances of bad connections that can reduce Silver Rod performance. The White Fibreglass with the steel whip at the top makes this very easy on the eye while having actually BETTER performance than Silver Rod. It’s fairly Subtle but you get 1S point higher on transmission with the receive strength being about the same but with less noise on receiving. Where the Silver Rod had S3 of noise this has S1 noise floor. While my receive on the same station remained the usual S5 and so gaining a much better S/N ratio. 11/10 for performance and ultra low visual impact. Classic antenna. My first ever half wave CB antenna from the 90s. The only issue is that the aluminium used bends easily in the wind. My antenna bent like a banana within a day in storm Eunice. My solution was to replace the bottom section with a 1.83m long 25mm wide stainless steel section (from B&Q) and drop the other sections down to around 88cm in length to give the whole structure more stability. My antenna now resonates much more broadly with a swr of 1:1.5 or under from 26.5 Mhz to 29.5 Mhz. So for an extra £14 you get yourself a sturdy antenna that will outperform antennas double the price. Worth the fix if needed. 73s.
