Excellent value especially at 'refurbished' price
I already have 2 Roberts DAB radios (original Solar DAB and Gemini 49) that are several years old and still working perfectly but was keen to have one that was compatible with DAB+ and was stereo. The ability to recharge the batteries without removing them was very important. The Duologic fulfills these criteria and I already had four 10,000mAh NiMH batteries that were not really needed for a big Maglite torch. It is large and heavy with its batteries installed but easily carried with 1 hand thanks to a recess on the back. Reception of both DAB and FM is excellent, even pulling in DAB stations based 30 miles away. Sound is very good except the bass is a bit too 'boomy' for my liking and there is no way to adjust it. Output is 2x1W and fills an average room very well. Initially I was disappointed by the lack of presets (just 1 preset for one single station) but the favourites option is probably better than having more presets, though set-up of the favourites requires reading the manual, which is well written and clear. There is a natural tendency to move the larger tuning knob instead of the smaller volume knob below it but you soon stop doing that. There is a line in connector but not a line out, though the headphone socket could be used cautiously for that purpose (have not tried). Initial charging of 4x10Ah capacity batteries, which were probably almost discharged, took about 18 hours but batteries of lower capacity would obviously take less time. These should last for about 80 hours. There is no indicator for charge remaining but according to the manual the charge indicator shines red when the batteries are almost done. Apart from the boomy bass, my only other negative comment is that the display is only legible if viewed straight on. This is true whether the backlight is on or off. If I had paid full price for this I would have given it 4 stars due to the boomy bass but for £48 it certainly deserves 5.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Refurbished
