It's like uprating the PC
Supplying just 4 pins in the 8 pin cpu 12v socket is starving it of the required power it wants. This adapter means that 12v is being supplied to both sides of the cpu and the difference is very noticeable. The desktop is smoother and faster and the adapter is a lot lot cheaper than updating the power supply.
