Purchased as a wedding anniversary gift for my wife that has proved to be a great success. She has had the unit a couple of months. The following is based on usage everyday. The build quality is good and the device feels nice in the hand. The display lived up to the hyp about it's quality being capable of great resolution and brilliance. I think outside sunshine may still beat it but that's true of just about all colour tablets. The battery life proves to be close to the claims at least when viewing video and reading. Stories about the inbuilt memory being off limits to non Barnes and Noble content proved to be untrue after installing much content from other on line sources and by direct cable link. Limitations of non flash video capability that prevented using the BBC iPlayer have recently been overcome with a recent update. Another rider I sometime see states you must have an sd memory card installed. I have not installed an sd card on this 32gb version and have not been stopped from doing anything by any app I have installed. It has been used extensively with many epub files which display okay for the most part though there does seem to be a few quirks that affect picture position within the text. I suspect this is a comflict in standards as is the case with many things in this world. Highlighting text in the epubs with a stylus works well. The small speaker is limited but a £20 bluetooth speaker solved that! Netflix works fine but the app does have a few bugs occasionaly when exiting. The device has locked up only once forcing a restart. The apps side is perhaps the biggest weakness as the Barnes and Noble Nook store is the only place you can obtain apps. I was aware of from the start. So far it has not been a problem but it will be for some. The inbuilt email software can be linked to Gmail and the like but the intigration of Gmail contacts is absent. The inbuilt contact manager needs to be populated by hand unless you have email that works with an outlook server. I hope that will change given time as did the flash video capability. I cannot compare it to other tablets out there as this is our first device. That said I am thinking of getting one for myself. It is possible to override the inbuilt firmware and make the unit a standard android tablet but so far I have not felt the need to go down that road.Read full review
Great tablet with a fantastic screen, very clear and bright. Good on battery life in standard format. I however use mine with an N2A card which transforms this into a full blown Android tablet with all the bells and whistles and it's fantastic. By far the best tablet I've owned.
The Nook screen wipes the floor with Ipad 1, 2 and Mini. Only the Ipad with Retina screen comes close and that costs 3 times the price with no expansion slot. Truly stunning. Use as a B&N tablet or insert an N2A card into expansion slot for full Android functionality for a few quid. It can then be booted as Nook or Android at will, without any complicated rooting and without voiding your warranty.
At around £100 new on ebay you can't go wrong! Hd screen. Usb port for transferring files from your pc! Google play and all google apps installed. Email, web, movies books games. This tablet does the lot. I'm using it now to write this review. If you want a galaxy tab for less than half price buy one of these instead.
For a start I am a very picky person, had never heard of Barns and Noble, did some research on the internet, decided to take a chance, bought a Nook hd+, my wife and daughter have both got a Samsung Galaxy tab 2 10inch, I found them rubbish and terribly frustrating browsing the internet and the camera is a waste of time. The Nook was easy to set up straight out the box, PS it was a new sealed one 32gb. it was the difference between a Rolls Royce and an old banger, beautiful Apple quality screen and browsing was a joy. Not going into all the technical details but this is a lovely bit of kit. If I had the choice between an Apple iPad and this it would be the Nook hd+ I would choose, not just the price but they are totally hyped up and the restrictions of doing everything through bloody iTunes is a ball ache, take a chance and get a Nook hd+, you can still pick them up at bargain prices and customer service is amazing. I have bought another but a 16gb for the wife because the price was right at the time. GET ONE!Read full review
