In the UK Hindemith's music is far too seldom played and often misunderstood. He was not the dry theorist that many claim but a highly original master of counterpoint and harmony, lyrical without schmalz and humorous without buffoonery. Any Hindemith that comes into sight, I grab; hence this purchase. Quartet no 2 is harmonically surprisingly traditional; no 3 points towards the works that lay ahead. Great clarity of performance and excellent recording quality. Highly recommended.
