A single-conversion system is built into these radios that have a Phase Locked Loop circuit. A FED balanced mixer and MOS FET’s offers an assured spurious and intermodal characteristic. A built-in IF SHIFT system offers the ability to shift between passbands, delivering the ability to bypass adjacent channel interference. Install a fixed channel for the 7, 14, 21, and 28 MHz bands, up to four fixed channels in all. Exchange the 3.5 MHz and 28 MHz fixed XTAL position by simply moving a connector on the AF-GEN unit. Enjoy the full range of auxiliary functions built into the Kenwood TS-120S transceiver. Equipped with VOX (voice operated exchange switch) RIT digital readout, this device automatically turns on when audio sounds are detected, and even provides text on the built-in display for easy understanding. A balanced gate noise blanker fades out background sounds and disruptive noises so a clearer audio sound is conveyed. A 25 kHz marker evens out all input and output frequency conveyed over the transceiver so that it is more understandable to the individual listening. Vintage but Classic TS-120s from Hamandhifia
Purchased a TS-120S from Hamandhifi. Simple but fantastic workhorse of an HF rig. As described by them it has full output power on all bands and receives well on all bands. Only has SSB and CW but it is as great of a radio as it is simple. Pairing it with a cheap generic replacement CB mic (rewired the connector), for this price range, this unit has excellent transmit audio! Now of course this transceiver isn't going to have all of the features and capabilities of a multi thousand $$ HF radio. However if you recently upgraded to general and are looking for a first rig consider a TS-120s. A tested good working one would be a great choice. This is not my first HF rig but I do plan on keeping it for a long time. Personally I love the look of these early 80's era radios and am happy to have it in my collection. Very nice rig, built like a tank can be taken for mobile trips also. Performance equals to big rigs, side by side comparison to the Icom Pro3 shows equal capabilities. Technology inside the rig is relatively old, but it holds good against the current rigs in good stead. Always wanted one in my shack and good that I could find one from Hamsandhifi in pretty excellent condition.
