I like this unit because it is an all-in-one solution for all bands, 160-2M with 100W output. The PRO version includes more filter options than the earlier one, and there are no additional filters to buy. However, there aren't as many filter options in the AM mode as in SSB or CW. The receiver apparently uses synchronous detection on AM, although the manual doesn't mention this feature. The spectrum display feature is very rudimentary and not that useful as far as I am concerned, especially in comparison to more recent models like the IC-7300 which have real time displays. Overall, it's a good value for the money.

I bought this used from e-Bay and am very pleased with the performance. The pre-amplifiers, auto tuning, and selectivity are better than anything I've owned previously. It's simple and intuitive to use for the most part. When the band gets noisy the DSP makes a big difference as do the other filters. Even without the DSP the IC746 seems to be very good at isolating and getting the best out of all signals you can hear. With a simple dipole only ten feet off the ground I can reach stations across the country. I like it and would recommend it.

I had one 746 already and liked it so well, I sold my 756 and bought another one. I have been very well pleased with both. The radio has HF plus 6 and 2 meter capability, with full 100 watts output, even on 2 meters. Also the dual PBT controls let you narrow an signal down from either sideband to as tight as you want. Great feature!

The radio has a very good receiver, getting good audio reports, drives the amp well. Filters work well, noise reduction works great, with instructions menus are easy to follow.

This is a very good tip sheet, but the text size is a bit of a squint. If I were to do it again, the order would be for two each of the double-sided version, so that the print would be above the bifocal level. Other than that, it certainly saves my instruction manual from a lot of additional wear on my "How Do I Do That?" missions.
