Great radio!
Great radio, excellent sound quality for mono, goes very loud without distortion, plenty of features and battery usage is better than the specs suggest (10hrs on a set of 4 C cell batteries), I installed a cheap set of batteries just to get a baseline for how long a set would last and it bettered the suggested 10hrs. Easy to use DAB Radio
This is the second DAB radio I have purchased via eBay from Tesco because I was so impressed with an identical one (apart from the colour) that I bought a few days before. The quality of sound and ability to receive so many DAB channels is good but what most impressed me was the ease of use with the automatic time setting and the ability to scroll through the channels and adjust the volume with the control dials on the front. My first purchase was originally for my 86 year mother who can struggle with anything more technical than a light switch, so she now has a DAB radio that she can easily use. Tesco DR1404G Digital DAB Radio
This compact clock radio was just what I was looking for to compliment my wife's bedside. It arrived very quickly, It was packaged very well, and came with user guide, adapter and connection cable (USB) The set up was very easy, my wife had it all tuned in to both DAB and FM stations, alarm set and tested all within a few minutes. The sound quality is very good, speech is crisp and clear, I paid £16.50 for this radio from TESCO OUTLET, It was described as refurbished, but to be honest it was like brand new, even down to the packaging all looked as brand new, was it worth what I paid, you bet! This is my second piece of tech bought from TESCO OUTLET within a week I will now keep an eye on TESCO OUTLET for all my future tech purchases,......And further more you get a full manufacturers 12 month guarantee......Happy me! I have built, dismantled and listened to a wide variety of radios in 40 years. Some cheap, some pricey, IMHO the most important selection criteria is the sound. (Why else did you buy it? but we buy via the 'net, sound unheard!) The DR1404G has good Equaliser settings to shape the sound to suit most folk. The second criteria, is an easy to read display for night & day use. The DR1404G display is blue and large and kind to older eyes. At night it's not a nuisance, it can be switched off! Thirdly, today's DAB radios can look as complex as a rocket for Jupiter! Confusing layout of controls with very small buttons and even smaller function labels. Not on the DR1404G. Buttons are carefully spaced and labels large. Someone gave quite some thought to these key design features on this radio. Well done Tesco. A bonus feature is a signal strength indicator at the top left of display so you can place the radio in the best position for high quality DAB and FM sound. You can clearly see how rain affects DAB signal strength creating distorted sound 'burbling' - clearly not the fault of the radio though. Moving the set often helps. Overall do try out this radio. Really Good... Nearly Perfect
For it's small size the sound's good. Controls OK but could be better. Reception good. Portable and the "Aux" mode lets me plug in my iPhone for my own music and podcasts. Sadly it takes C size batteries. You don't often see those and rechargeable AA's would have been much better. The power lead uses a USB charger... so it's a shame the lead plugs into a non USB plug on the radio... if it used a standard or mini-USB along with AA batteries it would be perfect. Nearly there!
I had a previous grey identical radio. Sound great and crisp even in FM. I had for about 2 years. The AC connector at back had become dislodged and would not charge. Not viable to battery charge all the time. Was a bit annoyed and took casing of but no way of repair. To be fair it was beside bed so I was dragging it all over the place. If in a set position or two, it would be no problem. So normally I wouldn't buy again but for money it still compared very well with other makes. So I spotted it on Tesco outlet at half price. First class postage and communication. In retrospect it was half price it was the purple version and the labels on the controls are virtually invisible as pink case on white label (any dark font would have been ideal) ... but I know what each control does so it wasn't a issue for me and for about £13 was an absolute bargain. Very Impressive Radio for the Price
I was astonished by the bargain that this item appeared to be, and quite prepared to be disappointed. But when iI got it and switched it on for the first time ( it instantly sorted out the time and stored all the DAB channels I get here) and the sound came out the speaker I was amazed. Nice retro radio unit, pinky-purple shade actually quite cool, very solid and looks indestructable. Sorted out the manual programming for FM very fast following the clear instruction book. The buttons have been well thought out - it's a lot easier to use than I thought it might be. Very nice, works well, nice sound. And for a really good price.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New
