i have been trying to live trap , or snare a boar coon that has been destroying my bird feeders for a month or better , with no luck. i bought this trap & after watching video's on how to use it ... I set it up by smearing a little peanut butter around the opening & inside , then dumped a small amount of sunflower seeds in the trap & on the first night caught my problem coon. the spring is very strong so i used a flat blade screw driver to push down the spring & set the trigger by putting a piece of 1/2" pvc pipe in the opening to take some pressure off the spring to help set it (remove pvc after trigger is set) . i also found out that when setting the trap ,to make sure it can't roll out from under you . i ended up bracing it against a tuft of grass . a shallow divot in the dirt works well too, or up against you shoe . finally , use the screw driver to make a hole in the ground as if you try to push the trap into the ground when it's already set it can go off. very strong & well built excellent product !Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

sounds good in theory, but not effective.
One trap wont stay set, it snaps closed as soon as pressure is released from trigger. The second trap didn't hold the coon that has been after my chickens. It pulled right out of the trap after it was triggered. I will try to put duct tape with sticky side out on the holding mechanism to create some resistance from pulling out next time. Not worth the freight to send back. Not recommended for big coons. May work on possums. Have to keep the Havahart trap set up.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Tired of coons
I initially found these very difficult to set, as I overestimated my hand strength. I did however discover that with the help of a large screwdriver I could set one in no time flat. These are very effective traps I set three of them the first night and got three coons. I reset those and found a greedy fourth one caught with its paws in two traps that were set close together. Baiting these traps are extremely easy, we dropped miniature marshmallows in them as well as on the ground around them. Great concept!
These traps appear to be excellent quality. I’m so glad that I found a seller who includes the necessary tool to set these traps. They look like the perfect size to bait with a regular size marshmallow which should spring the trigger EVERY TIME without me having to worry about trapping pets. I have been using a live trap but the raccoons seem extremely adept at removing bait without springing the trap and when they do get caught the tear it up and foul it with feces. These should stay clean and functioning and I got 3 for about the price of a live trap. I can’t wait to set these up. Despite all my efforts I keep losing chickens. If you need to trap any animals under the paw size of a mountain lion.These traps are for you.The great thing is you will catch the unknown predators roaming your property that you know are there at night, but don't know what they are.In Southwest Texas I catch Voles, possum, spotted Skunks, coons,ect...you name it. I have chickens to protect and these traps have really made my life easier......Thank You to the inventer..PS...A vole is similiar to a rat only they burrow and are more like a mole.Traps would work great for rats come to think of it.

had a coon that would not get in my live trap. I received the foot trap and was satisfied with the quality of the product. I did not order the tool to set the trap so I made one from a piece of rod. It works great. I put several minature marshmallows and some bird seed in the bottom of the trap. I set the trap and secured it to a tree. The second night I caught the coon. Great Trap
After using live traps for years I decided to buy these and I'm not all disappointed. Coons can sometimes get food out of live traps and can sometimes slip out of them too. Not with these. I love the fact that they are animal specific as well. The only other animal other than a racoon you could possibly catch is a possum. Fantastic product
My first time trying to trap raccoons with this type of trap.. Trap has not failed yet. I put out two traps and have caught 13 coons in 9 days.
