Excellent quality build with close shave and excellent engineering
Was using for so many years disposable and cheap double edge shavers. Never liked the electric shavers. I saw the reviews of the Merkur Futur and decided to give it a try. So very glad I did. Now I like to shave in the shower. The Merkur when it gets soapy is a bit slippery. So I dipped the handle in liquid rubber and problem solved. The problems that I had in the past is that so many cheap razor bodies have poor adjustment or no adjustment at all. The Merkur has an excellent adjustment and also has a great system where the top of the head snaps off for cleaning or blade replacement. It also has deep valleys on each side to take up the scrapings. Very easy to clean. The shave I get with the Merkur is excellent. Very close and no nicks! So I highly recommend the Merkur Futur. Well made and finished but with drawbacks
Merkur razors are justifiably respected for quality, and this is no exception.For an adjustable razor it ticks most boxes. The main problem is that the razor head is quite thick and so manoeuvring it around the nose, for example, is not as easy or effective as regular safety razors. Number 1 is the most sensitive setting and it is indeed as good as other sensitive style razors. Going above three and you had better have a styptic pencil handy, or have pretty tough skin. It is however a good option for those that shave only every few days. I don't understand why they did not have a knurled handle like most other razors, so keep you fingers dry when using it. The other thing you will have to get used to is the weight, but they do say to let the weight of the razor do the work, and I have found that to be true. So basically a good razor, but it's getting up there in price and I suspect that you will have to give it some time to adjust to it, it's different from the regular range of good quality safety razors.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Great safety razor.

Excellent Razor
Great razor, great shave, great quality. I recommend it with 5 stars. I would advise the user to try different blades until they find the one that fits their taste. The Merkur Experience.
I've been using it a while now. It's a very smooth cool experience. The razor has fantastic accuracy in cut height and glides over the face like wet soap, so smooth and silky. The one I got came in a Merkur box, and the head was stamped Merkur Solingen Germany, under the blade cover it was extruded in metal the words Merkur on one side and Solingen Germany on the other. This is how you tell the Chinese knock offs from the real deal. The No. dial lines up perfectly with the dial selector line engraved in the handle. It's a beautiful product, well executed perfection in it's sensual anthropomorphic form. It is art in metal, and it shaves with German precision. The ease of changing the blade is well thought out. Good, but…
Loading blades can be tricky. Adjustment is easy, I found it too "conservative" i.e. die 'mild' 1 setting hardly shaves at all. Can't go wrong getting this razor!!!
This is a great razor! I've been shaving with DE razors for a few years now. If I had gotten this razor or the Merkur Progress in the beginning I wouldn't have spent so much money on other razors. This Future is nothing but a clean smooth shave even with blades that didn't work good in other razors. My other razors lay in the drawer now that I have the Future. Quality razor
So far, I really like this razor. The quality is outstanding, and it has a sleek, modern look. I have a couple minor criticisms. The sleek look also means that it's a little slippery when wet. Great razor. Easy to clean. Well balanced and well made. Make sure you use a high quality shaving cream. Not foam out of a can. Short strokes with very light to no pressure against your skin will result in a clean close shave. This razor will last decades with proper care. I have both the "Futur" and "Vision".
