56g Mannol Epoxy Putty sets stone like hard but grindable!
I was trying to repair a lawnmower motor that had "destroyed" its bearings, heat at one end had melted to some degree the plastic bearing cage, so I was looking for a high temperature epoxy that could be ground to shape. The Mannol Putty claimed to take 250degC so looked ideal, comes as a two part epoxy in a round stick form that you cut to a required length, then knead that together to form a dark grey mouldable putty which I then spread evenly around the cage's damaged area to build it up. I had also used wire to act as depth setters plus to key onto for extra strength. I had the old outer bearing shell cleaned and coated in white silicone grease to press fit into this new formed cage finding it easy to shape so able to square fit this shell in position. This product reminded me of another Welsh product which I use, and think that a damp rag to limit it sticking to my fingers might have been a good idea, I think this product was maybe faster in curing but still allowed a good working time. Had a leftover part which I tested to see how hard it became, finding it turned slowly (about an hour) into a hard stone like material. At this point I gently tapped out my bearing shell and was able to grind out unwanted over spill and wipe away the grease I had used as a release agent, left it to fully set for 24hrs before fitting a new bearing into the new reformed cage, perfect job hard and temperature resistant. A great product for its price sets hard like a "stone" to drill, grind, shape etc, I think a damp rag to wipe hands would help to aid its use by hand placement, good for metalwork patches of holes or make good broken parts. Not able to think of any downside with it other than colour in certain uses but it should take paint I would think. Great product and well pleased with results.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New
