This is a great looking model with excellent levels of detailing especially on the roof and underframe, though a driver in the cab (as in Bachmann's class 85) would have been a nice touch. The running performance is also superb - very smooth and quiet at all speeds, and plenty of weight and power to pull a scale length train. This dual named version is one of Hornby's "odd" ideas (since it never ran like that in service) but this can be changed easily enough, and the application of the BR blue livery is excellent. Unfortunately the pantograph on this verison is extremely flimsy - It fell off the first time I tried to put it in the raised position! - And the overall feel of it makes me fairly certain it is going to break at some point. Bachmann and Heljan do their pantographs in metal which are much better quality and even Hornby's own version of the original "cross arm" pantograph on the 87 is much superior to this...! The lighting looks good and the day/night switch for the main headlight and the cab interior is a nice feature but I wish the cab could be switched off independently to the main headlight - Hornby should look at updating that for future releases. Overall this is a good model that could be excellent - Its just a pity about the cheap pantograph and one or two minor missing features in terms of lighting/control options.Read full review

A really stunning highly detailed model from Hornby. A silk smooth runner with a choice of lighting options. Although detailed, not too delicate.
