  • A WONDERFUL FILM, just avoid the avant garde score, have the piano score.

Unfortunately it has a 'score' which can only be described as a cacophony of' musical instruments which have nothing to do with the movie' They call themselves Ensemble Musik Fabrik. who have 'done their own thing' with total disregard and respect for this wonderfully quirky film. Silent film music has to give a voice to the actors, propel the action, and heighten the drama. This 'music' does nothing for the film and is quite simply. Awful. Thankfully there is an alternative. Richard Siedhoff's Piano score. How much better the presentation could have been with music composed by Carl Davis or Timothy Brock. Composers who love these wonderful films, and know how to write appropriate music. To the people who commissioned Ensemble Musik Fabrik. The avant garde 'music' is a disaster, being saved by the Piano Score. Watch Intolerance with the majestic Carl Davis score. Watch Faust with the brilliant score composed by Timothy Brock. These composers add immeasurably to the films that were made with so much love and care. Murnau. Lang, and Leni. Silent film music as it should be. Rant over! Jonathan
