NotesBorn of that brief, inspired moment in time when the freaks almost took over, April 1968's God Bless Tiny Tim is an otherworldly mission statement from the misunderstood pop culture icon who almost singlehandedly invented "other." Featuring the Top 20 hit "Tip-Toe Thru' The Tulips With Me." Produced by RICHARD PERRY (Captain Beefheart, Holy Mackerel, Fats Domino, Nilsson), God Bless Tiny Tim features many early 20th-century classics from the great American songbook, and tracks penned by PAUL WILLIAMS ("Fill Your Heart" was his first major album appearance), GORDON ALEXANDER (his "Strawberry Tea" was cut around the time Gordon was recording with CURT BOETTCHER) and more! This DELUXE EXPANDED MONO EDITION features the original mono mix of the album, which has been out of print since 1968. Even then, copies of the mono LP were promotional only for press and radio, making this mix an entirely new listening experience for fans. Also included are non-LP singles, and previously unavailable instrumental mixes showcasing the artistry of arranger ARTIE BUTLER in a way never before heard. Mastered by Alan Brownstein FROM THE ORIGINAL MASTER TAPES! The extensive, full-colour booklet includes rare photos and extensive liner notes by Kristian Hoffman.

This CD is comprised of Tiny Tim singing a variety of 1900s-1930s songs--some of which have a bit of a 1960s twist and/or humor. For those who were enchanted by his famous falsetto version of "Tiptoe Through the Tulips with Me," there are two versions of this in both stereo and mono version as well as an instrumental version--all of great sound quality. Other such songs where Tiny sings in falsetto include "Living in the Sunlight, Loving in the Moonlight" and "Ever Since You Told Me That You Loved Me(I'm A Nut);" the latter of which has a pop rock feel with buzz guitar. Tiny also utilizes male and female voices in "I Got You, Babe"--noted as "the duet with himself" on the CD sleeve--and "On the Old Front Porch." Additionally, he uses a deeper range in the psychedelic-themed "Stay Down Where You Belong" and "The Viper"--spoken by Tiny in two characters with what sounds like reverb(echo)effects added to the laughter to make him sound creepy. Unless you're familiar with this campfire tale, Tiny brings "Viper" to an unexpectedly humorous end. I enjoyed this CD immensely. As a musician and singer myself, I found Tiny Tim's vocal abilities to be phenomenal. From watching his performances, I have much respect for his overall talent. I believe that the name Tiny Tim is synonymous with the word icon.
