About this product

Product Information

Electroplating in the home workshop can seem a daunting task due to the range of chemicals, the unfamiliar processes and the underlying chemistry involved. However, the results of a well-cleaned item and a well-maintained electrolyte are overwhelmingly impressive and, compared to sending parts to be industrially electroplated, are very cost effective. The practical advice given in Electroplating will provide you with the confidence and ability to create an electroplating tank of your own. This book will guide you through each of the processes and the equipment needed to start your own plating system and, alongside detailed step-by-step photographs and diagrams, provide instructions on their most effective use. AUTHORS: Dan and David Hanson are father and son, and directors of Gateros Plating, a small company specializing in home electroplating kits. Learning the techniques first as part of a hobby restoring motorcycles, Dan has worked in the electroplating industry for over ten years. David joined the company after completing a degree of BSc Natural Sciences (Physics) and working as a 3D printer engineer. This is their first book. • Written by experts - for experts. If you just want to plate motorbike parts at home, look elsewhere.

If you are like me and have classic cars or bikes that you restore and fancied a go at zinc plating the old nuts, bolts & brackets, then walk away as this is not the book that tells you how to do it. Don't get me wrong, there is a massive amount of information in this book and it has clearly been written and compiled by experts in their field, so if you know what you're looking at it will be priceless. The trouble is, I didn't know anything about the subject and was looking for a step by step guide to achieving my goal of bright zinc coated mild steel. This is not that book. In my view it reads as if it was written for the plating industry, not for a guy at home who wants to tinker. I have a degree in Mechanical Engineering and feel like I've picked up an A-level chemistry book, seriously so most of what I've read goes totally over my head.
