This new edition is carefully updated to represent the current state of our field, and will remain the first resource I check when tackling a new challenge.". - Patrick Cozzi, Principal Graphics Architect, Cesium, and co-editor ofOpenGL Insights.
Great book, very in-depth and readable content on a huge and complex subject, with great accompanying website to access the referenced publications and other resources easily.
Sadly, not built very strongly. This arrived in condition that matched the 'new' description, but during my first readthrough, the bindings fell apart in several places, partly due to the stress of rigid spine on such a thick book. I now have a very floppy book with several pages completely detached, which is disappointing for a reference book that I intend to revisit a lot.
The book is written really well. Everything is described in good detail along with reasoning about why something is the way it is. It seems to have been written by very good teachers who know exactly what needs to be explained for a thorough understanding of a topic while clearly highlighting the unnecessary details and avoiding focusing on them.
It is a must have for anyone who wishes to understand rendering, though I would be more interested in reading a fifth edition, which would include mesh shaders and the new graphics pipeline (might be a bit early for new techniques to emerge).
