  • Rubbish blade

Blade is useless, made or some super soft and brittle scrap, sharpened for 2 hours to finally get a mirror perfect edge , couple passes on soft pine and edge gives away and turns to rugged chipped line. Sharpened to perfect edge twice, and same result afer soft pine the edge chips away. On my Stanley no5 and no7 I can do soft pine or oak with no issues, buy that as instead. Faithfull is not a tool, it's just a full size toy replica.

  • I Was Worried Because It Was Cheap!

I was really dubious because of the price. Should I risk it? Save and buy a known make second hand? Buy a wooden plane? In the end I decided to take a punt accepting it would take a lot of work when it arrived. This is only my third new plane, I look for older Stanleys and Records normally. Out of the three this was easily the easiest to flatten 20 minutes and it was perfect at 1200 grit. The majority of Sharpie criss cross marks came off in the first pass. The blade took a bit more work to get to a perfect 30%, but no more than you’d expect from a new blade and once it was there it polished perfectly on the strop. No plane blade is intended to be used on a grinding wheel without being regularly dipped in water to keep it cool. If it gets over-heated it will lose its temper and will chip very easily. This isn’t a fault with the blade but with it being treated wrongly. The plane itself is a real joy to use. I was worried it might be too much for me as I have some serious upper body difficulties, but its balance with its weight means the plane does all the work. My one minor gripe is even though I don’t have the world’s biggest hands I found the tote a bit cramped which slightly restricted me from getting to the blade adjustment knob but it’s doable and it’s very responsive. In no time at all I was taking off wispy curls. I would definitely recommend this plane with no reservations at all.

  • Very good tool - well worth £40

I'm a amateur wood worker - I'm getting to hand tools and buying rough hardwoods and working them down the nice boards. I've been using an old Stanley no5 but needed something bigger to work on the longer/wider boards I was getting. First thing I want to mention is that it arrived very quickly, far quicker than I was expecting - excellent service. It was well secured in a sturdy cardboard box and oiled to prevent rust. I didn't even try the plane before sharpening, I just took it out the chip breaker and went through the grits at 30 degree angle. Reassembled and went to work on a rough plank of oak. It's a very heavy plane, well built and nice brass fittings. I've not seen any evidence of it so far but I suspect it's cheap steel but it sharpened up really well. It did a great job on that plank of oak, the weight combined with the glide was great. As mentioned I'm an amateur but this a great tool. If you are a professional and using hand tools I'm sure you could find faults with it - it's obvious at £40 corners have to be cut, but it really is good. Highly recommended for DIY usage and more

  • Reasonable budget plane

Not bad for the price. Sides and bottom are not ultra flat & could do with further trueing but not bad. Blade comes not nearly sharp enough, but I sharpened it and got shavings down to only a hair’s thickness!

  • Jointer plane

Got the plane this morning, great delivery time. Gave the blade a quick sharpen set it up and works just fine. For this money you won’t find a better tool.
